InvestRight 2-in-1 Demat Account Eligibility Criteria for NRIs
Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) can open a 2-in-1 Demat Account with HDFC Bank offline. You must comply with a few additional guidelines due to your non-resident status:
- NRE and NRO Account Linkage: You must choose between an NRE or NRO savings account to link with your Demat account. An NRE account allows the repatriation of funds, while an NRO account holds income generated within India. This choice impacts tax obligations and the flexibility of fund transfers.
- Repatriation and Non-Repatriation Basis: You can choose to open the account on a repatriation or non-repatriation basis. For repatriation, an NRE account is necessary. For non-repatriation, an NRO account is preferred.
