What Is Train Ticket Transfer?
Train ticket transfer in Indian Railways refers to the process of transferring the reservation of a train ticket from one passenger to another. This service allows you to transfer your confirmed tickets to family members, friends, or colleagues in case you are unable to undertake the journey yourself.
The transfer can be initiated at railway reservation counter by submitting a request along with relevant documentation. Once transferred, the new passenger assumes the rights and responsibilities associated with the ticket, like boarding the train with valid ID proof and adhering to travel regulations.
If you have booked your train ticket online, you can also conduct the transfer process through the same online booking platform.

Following are some of the methods of how to transfer IRCTC ticket to another person online:
IRCTC e-ticket Transfer
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) portal allows you to transfer your e-tickets to another person by visiting the railways reservation desk or through the online e-reservation systems. In both cases, you need to submit these documents with your change request form:
A printout of the Electronic Reservation Slip

Several third-party ticketing platforms also offer ticket transfer services. These platforms may have different procedures and requirements for transferring tickets, so you should familiarise yourself with the specific process of the chosen platform. Some platforms may charge a fee for ticket transfers, while others may offer it as a complimentary service.

Train Ticket Transfer – Requirements and Eligibility Criteria
To transfer an IRCTC ticket in another passenger’s name, you must submit a name transfer request at least 24 hours before the train’s departure.
You can typically transfer the ticket in the name of immediate family members like father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, husband, or wife. However, the transfer can only occur once per person, barring further transfers after the initial one. Additionally, government servants travelling on duty can also transfer their tickets into the names of other government servants.
