- ATM Withdrawal Limit Per Day
What is ATM Withdrawal Limit?

18 April, 2025
Synopsis
Banks typically set a daily limit on the amount of cash you can withdraw using your ATM card.
The ATM withdrawal limit set by your bank depends on the bank itself and the type of ATM card you hold.
In today’s digital world, you can conduct almost all kinds of transactions online through payment modes like NEFT, IMPS, RTGS, and UPI apps. Despite this, there are some transactions that are heavily cash-reliant. It also helps to have some cash, to deal with emergencies. To enable you to access the cash in your bank account, banks typically provide an ATM-cum-debit card, which comes with a daily withdrawal limit. Read on to know more about the daily ATM withdrawal limits in India.
ATM Transactions and Withdrawal Limits – An Overview
When it comes to withdrawing money from an ATM, there are some rules and restrictions in place. These rules are broadly similar across banks, as they are determined by the RBI, but slight differences may apply. For instance, the general rules surround the very usage of the ATM card at ATM kiosks.
Most banks in India allow you to conduct a maximum of five free ATM-based transactions – both financial and non-financial. This simply means that you can use ATM services to withdraw cash, check account balances, set/change ATM PIN, get mini statements, etc., up to a maximum of five times. The bank charges you a transaction fee if you exceed the number of free transactions.
ATM Cash Withdrawal Limits in India
When it comes to cash withdrawals limits, your bank holds the discretion to determine the ATM limit per day. The bank typically determines the limit based on several factors, with your account and card type being the primary ones. So, if you have a basic or standard savings account with moderate to low frequency transactions, your maximum daily withdrawal limit could be capped at ₹10,000 to ₹25,000.
On the other hand, if you hold a premium account with the bank with a high frequency of transactions on a daily or monthly basis, your bank may set significantly higher ATM daily withdrawal limits ranging from ₹50,000 per day up to ₹3 lakh for privileged accounts. Essentially, the limit is determined based on your account balances and the ATM-cum-debit card attached to the account.
Increasing ATM Cash Withdrawal Limits – Is it Possible?
The rules governing ATM cash withdrawal limits are different for different banks. However there are certain factors your bank may take into consideration. Here are some deciding factors:
Your Account in General
You bank may consider increasing the ATM daily cash withdrawal limit based on certain influencing factors such as the type of account you have, your relationship with the bank, and your past transactions, among other things.
Whether You Need a Temporary or Permanent Raise
Another factor that influences the bank’s decision is whether you want the ATM cash withdrawal limit to be raised temporarily or permanently. Banks are typically willing to accommodate requests for temporary hikes to assist with your cash flow needs in special circumstances like making a one-time high-ticket payment like a hospital bill, high-value purchase, etc.
Whether You Can Back Your Permanent Raise Request
In the event that you require your bank to increase your ATM cash withdrawal limit permanently, you need to make a strong case for the bank to agree to your request. If the bank grants your request, it may require you to modify your account and card type, which may entail paying a slightly higher annual card maintenance fee. You should agree to the same as well.
How to Increase ATM Withdrawal Limit?
Banks allow you to file a request to increase your ATM machine withdrawal limit through several different ways.
You can call your bank’s customer care helpline or speak to your designated personal relationship manager to find out the protocol you need to follow.
You can also reach out to your bank via their internet and mobile banking platforms, send an email to your bank, or make inquires through the virtual chatbots on your bank’s website.
In most cases, you will need to submit an online/offline written request along with some documents for the bank to approve your request to enhance your daily cash withdrawal limit.
