Guide on CKYC Meaning Features Types and Documents Required
07 March, 2024
Synopsis
CKYC was created to alleviate the burden of multiple KYC transactions.
This process is to ensure security and privacy while also providing convenience.
What is CKYC?
CKYC means Central Know Your Customer. It is a centralized database created by the government that eliminated the need for KYC information across the financial sector. It was created with the aim of eliminating the submission of KYC documents for verification purposes while availing of any financial services from the service provider.
Once you complete the CKYC process, a unique 14-digit CKYC number is generated. After the CKYC number, you don’t need to submit your physical KYC documents for any financial transaction with the participating institutions.
CKYCR full form is Central Know Your Customer Record Registry. Central KYC registry means the custodian and central depository of KYC documents and customers and is authorized by the government.
Features and Benefits of CKYC
CKYC number is a very useful facility developed by the government that carries the following features:
You are issued a 14-digit unique KYC number that is linked to your ID for seamless access to all your KYC documents.
It eliminates the need for physical copies of KYC documents, as all the documents are stored online digitally.
The CKYC documents undergo thorough verification and inspection before being accepted.
If you carry out changes in KYC details, it will automatically be reflected across all the connected institutions. This ensures up-to-date databases and eliminates the need for you to go to your financial service provider and update your KYC details.
CKYC centralizes the KYC information. This makes it easier to detect and prevent fraudulent activities, especially identity theft.
CKYC improves the customer experience significantly in availing of financial services. CKYC enables banks and financial institutions to access and manage customer information, thereby improving overall efficiency.
How to complete the CKYC process?
Here’s how you can complete the CKYC process:
Finding a CKYC service provider: Firstly, you need to find a financial institution or authorized service provider that offers CKYC services. CKYC number is generated if New to Bank account is opened or Re-KYC is submitted to the financial institution.
Submit documents: Gather and submit all the relevant documents required for CKYC documents. This includes personal information and related supporting documents like ID proof, address proof and photographs. You can either submit physical copies of your documents to the service provider or submit them electronically, depending on your provider’s preference.
Verification process: The CKYC service provider will check the documents and verify the information to ensure that they are authentic and accurate.
Receive CKYC number: Once the documents are processed and the information is verified, you will be issued a unique CKYC number that you can use to avail of various financial services in the future.
