- 9 FASTag Rules effective from 1st August 2024
Important Update: New FASTag Rules and Guidelines
23 October, 2024
Synopsis
- As per the new FASTag guidelines, each vehicle must be linked to only a single FASTag.
- FASTag Issued on Incorrect vehicle no. will be closed in-case correct vehicle no is not updated.
- Tag issued on Chassis No. should update their Vehicle Number under 90 days.
- If your vehicle does not have a FASTag, you must pay double the toll amount.
- Tag not Affixed on Windshield will lead to Blacklisting of vehicle.
New FASTag Rules 2024
The new rules for FASTag in 2024 introduce several important requirements to enhance the efficiency, compliance, and user experience of the electronic toll collection system. Here are the new rules:
1. OVOT - ‘One Vehicle, One Tag
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) introduced the initiative – One Vehicle, One FASTag. This way, each vehicle can only be linked to a single FASTag.
What’s Changing?
- Previously, vehicles could have multiple FASTags from different banks. This would cause confusion amongst not only the users but also toll operators. Now, each vehicle will be permitted to have only one active FASTag.
- If your vehicle has multiple FASTags, only the most recent one will remain active.
- Now, if a new FASTag is issued for a vehicle, any previous FASTags will be automatically deactivated.
What You Need to Do:
- Check your vehicle’s FASTag status. If you’ve got more than one, you can click here to check the status.
- Ensure your HDFC Bank FASTag is the only active FASTag. You can deactivate other FASTags by visiting the respective bank’s FASTag portal.
- If your HDFC Bank FASTag is the only active FASTag or if it is the latest issued FASTag, you are all set to hit the road worry-free.
2. Update Your Vehicle Registration Number (If FASTag is still linked to the Chassis Number or Incorrect Vehicle Number)
You may have linked your FASTag to the vehicle’s Chassis Number. However, per the new FASTag rules, you must link your FASTag to the Vehicle Registration Number within 90 days. Otherwise, your FASTag will be deactivated due to non-compliance. Also, the FASTag will be at risk of being deactivated if it’s linked to an incorrect Vehicle Registration Number.
What You Need to Do:
Check whether your FASTag is linked to the Chassis Number or the Vehicle Registration Number by logging into the HDFC Bank FASTag Portal. Navigate to Statements > Vehicle details to retrieve your FASTag details.
If your FASTag is linked to the Chassis Number, update your FASTag with your Vehicle Registration Number by raising a service request on HDFC Bank FASTag Portal.
- Go to Service Request > Make Service Request > Update Vehicle Reg No.
- (Make sure you have a copy of your Registration Certificate ready as you will have to upload it while raising the service request)
You can also use the same functionality to correct the Vehicle Registration Number that is incorrectly captured for your FASTag.
Stay ahead of the curve and update your FASTag with your Vehicle Registration Number as soon as you receive your vehicle registration.
3. Update Your KYC
If a FASTag wallet has been issued to you by obtaining minimum details, note that your wallet has been issued as a Minimum KYC wallet.
What Does It Mean For You?
Min KYC wallets are capped at ₹10,000/- per month on loading as well as usage. These wallets are valid for a period of 24 months only, beyond which the wallet will be credit-frozen to meet regulatory guidelines.
Full KYC wallets enjoy unrestricted usage (wallet balance should not exceed ₹2 Lakh at any given time) and extended validity.
What You Need to Do:
Check your HDFC Bank FASTag wallet’s KYC status by logging into the HDFC Bank FASTag Portal.
Navigate to the ‘Profile’ section from the options tray in the blue ribbon at the top of the screen. The KYC status will either be Min KYC or Full KYC.
If the KYC status of your wallet is Min KYC, you can complete your KYC within the 24 months validity to continue enjoying your FASTag without any service interruptions. Make sure you have PAN & Aadhaar details ready to complete your KYC.
Don’t wait! Complete your KYC today and unlock higher limits. It’s quick, easy and ensures your FASTag services continue running smoothly.
4. Replacement of Old FASTag
Your FASTag is automatically renewed every 5 years. At HDFC Bank, we recommend upgrading to the new HDFC Bank QR-enabled FASTag. You can be future-ready as QR codes are increasingly becoming the preferred mode of payment.
Why Upgrade?
- You can recharge your FASTag by simply scanning the QR code printed on the new HDFC Bank FASTags from PayZapp or any other preferred UPI application.
- The QR code offers an extra layer of security, as each QR code is unique. This minimises the risk of wrongly entering your Vehicle Registration Number while recharging.
Switch to the new QR enabled FASTag for a seamless recharge experience by clicking here.
5. KYV – Know Your Vehicle (Coming Soon)
As part of the new guidelines to enhance vehicle identification, FASTag-issuing Banks are required to carry out the Know Your Vehicle process. It is similar to KYC, but for your vehicle.
What You Need to Do:
Under the new guidelines, you must share the following details/documents of your vehicle with the Bank.
- Registration Certificate of your vehicle
- An image of your vehicle from the front capturing your Vehicle Registration Number
- An image of your vehicle from the side
- A clear image of the FASTag affixed on the windscreen from the inside of your vehicle
Your KYV details will be valid for a period of 3 years, after which you must update them to ensure compliance.
We are currently designing a process to make it easy for you to complete your KYV. Stay tuned for updates!
6. Link FASTag to Mobile Number
Each FASTag must be linked to the owner’s mobile number. This linkage ensures proper communication between FASTag providers and users, allowing for timely updates, alerts and notifications.
To update the mobile number on your NETC FASTag Wallet ID, you may call 1800-120-1243 or write to us at fastagsupport@1pay.in
7. Verification with VAHAN Database
The vehicle registration number, chassis number and engine number entered by you during the FASTag application shall be verified with the VAHAN database to ensure the accuracy and validity of the vehicle and owner details. This verification step helps in maintaining a standardised and reliable database across all toll collection points. So, ensure you enter the correct vehicle details during the application.
8. Double Toll Fee
Enhanced monitoring and enforcement systems will be in place to detect and penalise vehicles without valid FASTag or FASTag not pasted on the front windscreen.
Vehicles without a valid FASTag:
Vehicles will be subject to double the toll fee as a penalty without valid FASTag, encouraging compliance.
Non-affixation of FASTag on the front windshield of the vehicle:
Double Toll shall be charged from vehicles with non-affixed FASTag on the front windshield.
Deliberate non-affixation of FASTag on the windscreen leads to unnecessary delays at the toll plazas causing inconvenience to fellow National Highway users
Progress on FASTag
There has been considerable progress in FASTag since it was introduced. As of July 2020, FASTag transactions crossed 86 million while over 18 million tags have been issued across the nation. Since it will be compulsory for all vehicles to have a FASTag from January 2021, this figure will only go up in the months to come. FASTag is active along 615 toll plazas of NHAI and at 100 state highway toll plazas across the country.
