Simple Ways to Check Your Bank Balance
4 April, 2024
Summary
Digital technology has revolutionized banking, making tasks like checking balances and conducting transactions easy and accessible from anywhere.
Various methods like NetBanking, ATMs, SMS, missed call services, phone calls, passbook updates, UPI apps, and Mobile Banking services allow users to manage their finances efficiently.
These tools not only provide balance checks but also offer a range of banking services, including fund transfers and account statement views, enhancing the convenience and security of managing personal finances.
Digital technology has greatly streamlined many tasks that used to require significant time and effort. For example, you no longer need to visit a bank to perform everyday financial or banking transactions. With just a press of a button, you can transfer money, check your bank balance, deposit funds, and more.
Frequent transaction activities necessitate keeping an eye on our bank balance. Regularly checking your bank account ensures you are informed of any potential errors or fraudulent activities. Methods such as email, push notification, SMS, NetBanking, Unified Payment Interface (UPI), and more can be utilized to view your bank balance.
Ways to Check Your Bank Balance
Let's explore how you can know your bank balance in easy steps:
Through NetBanking & Mobile Banking
The most common method is using NetBanking to check your bank balance.
Visit the bank's official NetBanking portal and log in. For first-time users, register by clicking on ‘register' or 'first-time user'. Enter your account number, mobile number, email address, Debit Card number, and CVV. Submit the form and enter the OTP received. Create a new username and password. Now, you can log in anytime to view your bank balance.
Once you log in, navigate to the account balance option.
Select the account whose balance you wish to view.
Download the account statement if required.
You can follow similar steps to check your account balance via Mobile Banking.
Using an ATM
This is another popular way for you to know your bank balance. Simply visit your nearest ATM, and follow these steps:
Insert your ATM or Debit Card into the designated slot. Most ATMs require you to leave the card in the machine until the transaction is completed, although some may use a dip-and-remove method.
Many ATMs offer the option to choose a preferred language for the transaction. Select the one in which you are most comfortable.
Enter your Personal Identification Number (PIN). This is typically a four or six-digit code that you set up with your bank. Remember, your PIN is sensitive information – ensure no one is watching as you enter it.
After entering your PIN, you will be presented with various transaction options. To check your balance, select “Balance Enquiry” or a similarly titled option.
Through Text or Email Notifications
Text messages are an easy way to know your bank balance. The bank sends your available balance details via SMS or Email every time you make an account or Debit Card transaction. Make sure the SMS and email alert option is enabled for your bank account.
Using Phone Banking Services
The bank typically provides a Phone Banking number. You can call this number and typically an interactive voice response (IVR) will assist you on how you can get information on your account balance.
Via Passbook
Regularly update your passbook at the bank to view your bank balance. Typically, every account holder is provided with a passbook upon opening an account with the bank. This passbook can be conveniently updated by visiting your local bank branch. It also enables you to review your debit and credit transactions.
Via a UPI App
Another rapid way to check your bank account balance is through a Unified Payments Interface (UPI) app. UPI is a system that consolidates your bank's services in one place. For first-time UPI users, these instructions will guide you:
Launch the UPI app and navigate to the linked accounts section.
Select the preferred account.
Tap on the ‘view balance’ or similar option.
Enter the UPI PIN.
Upon successful authentication, the app will show you your account balance.
Checking Account Balance With PayZapp
HDFC Bank’s PayZapp is a UPI-enabled app, which also allows you to check your account balance. Here are easy steps:
Launch PayZapp on your smartphone. If you haven’t already, register for PayZapp using your mobile number.
Go the ‘Accounts & Cards’.
Select UPI Accounts.
Tap on ‘View Balance’ under the preferred bank account.
Enter the four or six-digit UPI PIN.
Check the account balance.

Exploring PayZapp’s Passbook Feature
Monitoring your account balance allows you to manage your transactions. Similarly, the PayZapp passbook, a feature of HDFC Bank's PayZapp application, offers a detailed overview of your transactions. PayZapp serves as a comprehensive payment platform, facilitating various types of payments, including utility bill payments, recharges, financial services payments and more, through preferred payment methods. The passbook acts as a personal financial log, detailing activities such as payments, money transfers, utility bill payments, and mobile recharges.
