- Personal Loan With 600 Credit Score
Personal Loan With 600 Credit Score
3 September, 2024
Synopsis
A credit score of 600 is considered low, which can impact your ability to get any loan.
You must take measures to bring your score up to at least 650 to be eligible for loans.
Paying off of your Credit Card bills and existing debts on time can help improve your credit score.
When you apply for any loan – whether it is a secured/collateral-backed loan or an unsecured Personal Loan, your lender asks you to provide proof that you have the capacity to repay the loan. The lender assesses your income, employment status, and your credit score. Typically, lenders need you to show a high credit score of 650 or more to deem you eligible for the loan. As such, getting a Personal Loan for credit score of 600 can be a tad bit challenging. Let’s understand why.
Loans and Credit Scores – The Co-relation and Role
Your credit score is a significant eligibility criteria lenders take into consideration, especially when sanctioning an unsecured, collateral-free loan like a Personal Loan. Your credit score essentially shows lenders how you manage your debts and Credit Card payments – whether you have been repaying bills on time, have missed any EMIs or made partial payments. Typically, if you pay all your bills on time, your credit score should exceed beyond 700 points. However, if you have struggled with debt repayment, your score could be low. A score of 600 is considered low.
What Happens If you Apply For A Personal Loan With Credit Score of 600?
Getting a Personal Loan with 600 credit score can indeed be rather stressful and worrisome. Here are some reasons why:
Most lenders may reject your Personal Loan application outright, which, in turn, causes your credit score to fall further.
If a lender agrees to sanction your loan, you may be charged a significantly higher interest rate, as lenders may deem you a risky borrower.
Despite the high interest rates, the lender may also ask you to provide collateral, which the lender may seize if you fail to repay your loan EMIs on time.
Since reputed lenders may not accept your loan application, you may have to reach out to private or small-time lenders, who typically levy exceptionally high loan processing fees and other hidden costs.
Should you need funds urgently, you can consider going for a secured loan like a Loan Against Gold, or Loan Against Property instead of a Personal Loan. However, if you need a Personal Loan for planned expenses which can wait, you should consider fixing your credit score first and applying later.
Getting a Personal Loan for Planned Expenses
Before applying for a planned expenses Personal Loan (wedding, vacation, etc.), you should consider improving your credit score by doing the following things:
Start by paying off your Credit Card dues on time, and in full. Avoid minimum/partial payments.
If you have any existing debts, concentrate on repaying your EMIs on time.
Ensure your Credit Card’s utilisation ratio does not exceed 30% of the available credit limit.
After paying off your debts on time, keep tracking your credit score to see if it has improved.
Once the credit score improves, you can go ahead and apply for an unsecured Personal Loan for your planned expenses.
