- Tap and pay Using Phone
Tap and Pay: A revolution in contactless transactions
Digital payments have shown breakthrough innovation, constantly evolving to improve customer experience, especially in the last two decades. From internet banking, credit/debit cards, digital wallets to UPI, you can pay for anything via digital mediums without having cash at hand. So, what is the latest payment innovation that you should know about and how do you get started? Learn more about how to make payments at your favorite merchant outlets by using Tap and Pay via mobile.
What is Tap and Pay?
Let us first understand what the Tap and Pay method entails. Tap and Pay is a form of contactless payment. All you have to do is tap your contactless chip card, or in this case your mobile phone to execute a transaction. For this, you will need to check for the contactless symbol on the shop’s payment terminal. Just tap your mobile phone with a payment app loaded on it, above or below the contactless-enabled payment terminal to complete the transaction. Transactions below ₹5,000 do not require you to enter PIN and you complete the entire journey in just a few seconds.
So, you can tap your debit/credit card or a mobile device with the requisite app over a contactless terminal to make payments. Whether you use a card or device, the contactless technology—Near Field Communication (NFC)—used is the same. NFC, simply put, is the technology that enables your phone and the payment terminal to connect with each other.
Tap and Pay is a completely touch-free way of making payments making them safer.
How to use your phone to Tap and Pay?
Tap and Pay using mobile devices is easy, but before you make your first payment, you must set up your mobile phone for Tap and Pay.
- Step 1: First, you must download an app that provides this service to use the Tap and Pay feature. You can install a mobile wallet like Apply Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, or the like. Your bank may also have tap and pay enabled via their mobile banking application, allowing you to avoid the hassle of setting it up.
- Step 2: Once you have installed the app, you must add your card details to ensure accurate data entry.
- Step 3: Your bank will then send you a verification text via SMS, phone call, or email.
- Step 4: Once the card is set up and synced with the app, you are ready to make payments.
- Step 5: When you want to make a payment, you will have to unlock your mobile phone. You will have to use a fingerprint sensor, facial recognition, or numeric passcode to do so.
- Step 6: Lastly, you simply have to hold your device over the contactless reader to make your payments.
However, do note that Tap and Pay via mobile only works if NFC is activated on your phone. It is this feature that allows your phone to communicate with the contactless reader. The merchant where you plan to use Tap and Pay should also have NFC payments enabled on their POS machine.
Now that you know how to use your phone to Tap and Pay, you can make the most of this technology to pay for your purchases quickly, conveniently, and safely!
