Can a roti that fills your stomach fuel your financial security?
Fatima Bee
The Beginning
I’m Fatima Bee, a 48-year-old woman from S. Hosalli in Yadgiri district Karnataka. Life was tough. As an agricultural labourer, my family struggled to survive on a monthly income of ₹4,500.
The Challenge
Balancing family responsibilities and financial hardship, I often felt overwhelmed. My husband’s drinking and our unstable income meant I had to support my family on my own, often working long hours in the fields. Despite my hard work, financial security remained a distant dream, and the cycle of poverty seemed unbreakable.
The Partnership of Success
But then, a glimmer of hope appeared. With the support of HDFC Bank and MYRADA (Mysore Resettlement and Development Agency), I received a Roti-making machine—a simple tool that became the catalyst for my transformation. Alongside two other women, I started a small-scale Roti business. Together, we worked tirelessly, producing 200-300 rotis daily. Our hard work paid off as the business started generating substantial income, lifting my family out of poverty. Today, I’m proud to say that I’ve not only improved my family’s life but also created employment opportunities for others.
“From the fields to a thriving roti business shows that, with courage and the right support, we can transform struggle into strength.”
